Fearless Protector?
Well, "almost" fearless. Lady, who has protected me from all sorts of potential dangers like the mailman, babies in strollers, and helicopters (yes, helicopters), is afraid of wind. March must be trying to come in like a lion as is generally expected, because it's been very blustery lately. When the wind picks up, Lady becomes a Velcro dog. I got dressed and dried my hair yesterday with a 90 pound dog trying to position herself on a 21 x 34 inch bathmat around my feet. Despite several valiant attempts, she was unsuccessful, so she settled for half in and half out of the bathroom.
Scary wind notwithstanding, we are looking forward to spring. This crocus poked its head out from underneath the covers this week. The vivid purple petals are a gloriously stark contrast against the bed of dried leaves and coneflower seed heads. Is it any wonder the birds are already singing their spring songs?

What a cute picture of Lady. I expect lady and I have the same problem with wind. I truly dislike when it whistles around my ears.

I've never heard of fear of wind before, though I imagine the sound could be very scary if you didn't realize what it was.
ReplyDeleteWe have been having a mild winter in Chicago, but no flowering yet. I keep imagining spring is just around the corner.
So funny what dogs are afraid of. I expect those weird things of cats, but the dogs? Always surprises me. That is a fabulous photo of the crocus!!!!!
ReplyDeleteLady is adorable trying to make herself smaller. Poor thing! And the crocus is such a hopeful sign of Spring. None around here however, it is snowing. Again.
ReplyDeleteWhat a sweetheart Lady is.
ReplyDeleteIt's so hilarious when great big dogs try to make themselves small enough to fit in your pocket. Bear - who has got to be close to 90lbs - does that when certain noises scare her, like when Morgan runs his compressor or when Murdoch sneezes.
When Murdoch sneezes??? Oh that made me laugh!!
Deletehow cute. we are petrified of that wind. It throws things right at you

It's okay to be afraid of something and if the wind really howls, I'm not that brave either to tell the truth.
ReplyDeleteLove your pretty crocus. We planted a gazillion red tulips several years and the next year started to spend our winters in the south and have yet to see them bloom. Wish you lived next door Brenda so you could go pick them and enjoy them for us.
Sam
Oh, I wish that too!!! If I lived next door I would pick them all, and put them in vases all over my house, and take photos of them to email to you! :)
Deletelol, that is too sweet. I love Lady.
ReplyDeleteMy crocus plants have come up too. It's a wonderful sign of spring. My lab/fox hound, Ellie loves to chase airplanes and birds. Such a silly girl. She is afraid of the vacuum cleaner.
ReplyDeleteI got a kick out of reading all your comments. (Ellie chases airplanes? I'd love to see that!!) When it's windy outside and Lady begins pacing nervously or trying to shrink down small enough to wrap herself around my feet, it's all I can do not to coddle her. But they say that's the worse thing you can do! So I just have to mostly ignore her and act normal...maybe a quick reassuring pat, but nothing more than that, so as not to "reinforce" the fear.
ReplyDeleteLady looks adorable! My dear Flora used to fear storm and always jumped to my lap. (Sigh...)
ReplyDeleteGorgeous purple petals!
